Duleep Trophy: Ishan Kishan Suffers Major Setback; Odisha Wicketkeeper as Replacement

Udaipur, Aug 18, 2025: East Zone captain Ishan Kishan was ruled out of the Duleep Trophy 2025 on Sunday. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman was recently made the captain of East Zone, but now he will not be able to play in the six-team tournament starting in Bengaluru from August 28.

In his place, 20-year-old Odisha wicketkeeper Ashirwad Swain has been included in the team. The Odisha Cricket Association gave this information on X. He will replace Ishan Kishan and join the team along with Sandeep Patnaik. Swastik Samal has been kept as a standby player.

Ashirwad Swain has played 11 first-class matches in his career so far. In 21 innings, he has scored 615 runs at an average of 30.75. He has not scored a century yet, but he has made 3 half-centuries. His best score in first-class cricket is 77 runs.

Ishan Kishan has played two Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20 Internationals for India since making his debut against England in Ahmedabad on March 14, 2021. He was last seen playing for Nottinghamshire against Somerset in Taunton from June 29 to July 2. In that match, he scored 77 runs while batting at number 6.

In the absence of Ishan Kishan, Bengal batsman Abhimanyu Easwaran will captain the East Zone team. The 29-year-old right-handed batsman has scored 7,841 runs in 103 first-class matches so far.
