Juhu Beach to Gateway of India – The Gaurvi Singhvi Challenge
The attempt for 46km, the longest open sea swim in India will be beginning from Juhu Beach on 6th February, at 3:30AM and Gaurvi expects to complete the swim before 12PM that afternoon.
Its not often that one challenges their own limits and opts to wander beyond the comfort zone that one is in.
Udaipur’s swimming prodigy Gaurvi Singhvi is doing just that. Gaurvi, the Mermaid from Udaipur has time and again set challenges for herself and keeps doing so, even at the young age of 14. She is now ready to attempt a record open sea swim from Juhu Beach to Gateway of India – 46km on 6th February, as per her family and d long distance swimming coach Mahesh Paliwal.
Gaurvi has already traversed the ocean waters off the Mumbai coast, clocking 6.5 hours for a 36 km record swim in March last year. A week prior to this achievment, she clocked another challenge by covering 16km in the high seas.
What makes Gaurvi’s current record amazing is that she has swam across the open sea, and not in the creek area. The currents just make the deep water swim more difficult.
Practice for Gaurvi is a daily attempt at perfection. She is swimming a regular 25km at Fatehsagar every morning braving the early morning chill. Her mother and coach are by her side at the pall area, where she is practicing. Being unwell or tired does not keep her away from training for attempting the record. Her food and water during the 8-10 hr daily practice happens at the Fatehsagar Pall itself.
