India's Judoka Kapil Parmar made history at the Paris 2024 Paralympics by winning the country's first-ever Paralympic medal in judo. Parmar secured a bronze in the men’s -60kg J1 category after defeating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira in just 33 seconds.

This win adds to India's overall tally of 25 medals in the ongoing Paralympics, which now includes five gold, nine silver, and 11 bronze medals.

Earlier, the 24-year-old Parmar had a tough semifinal match where he was beaten 0-10 by his Iranian opponent. However, he bounced back strong in the bronze medal match with a quick and decisive win. Parmar had also beaten Venezuela's Marco Dennis Blanco 10-0 in the quarterfinals.

The J1 category in para judo is for athletes with no to very low visual activity. Parmar's achievement follows his previous success at the 2022 Asian Games, where he won a silver medal in the same category.
