Udaipur, Aug 23, 2025: There has been speculation in Indian cricket for the past few days that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma may soon retire from ODIs. Both of them retired from T20 cricket last year and from Test cricket in May this year. Now, they only play ODIs. News of them leaving this format disappointed their fans. Both Rohit and Kohli have started training recently. This has ended the speculation about their retirement. Some media reports also said that BCCI is calm about this and not in a hurry. Now, Rajiv Shukla has confirmed that both will continue to play.
Rajeev Shukla appeared on a talk show where he was asked if Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will get a farewell match like Sachin Tendulkar. Replying to this, Shukla said, "Why are people so worried about these two? When did they retire? Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will still play ODIs. If they are playing, why talk about a farewell? Why are people already worried?"
Shukla added, "Our policy is very clear – BCCI never tells any player to retire. The player has to decide himself when to retire."
Kohli Very Fit, Rohit Playing Well
The BCCI vice-president said that Kohli is still one of the fittest players and Rohit continues to be a great ODI player. He asked fans not to think about farewells for now. "When that time comes, we will talk about it. Kohli is very fit and playing well. Rohit Sharma is still performing. And you people are already worried about farewells," said Shukla. Kohli and Rohit will return to play when India tours Australia for the ODI series from October 19 to 25.
