May 02, 2026: Kyle Jamieson has been penalised for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Delhi Capitals clash against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The incident involved Jamieson’s on-field behaviour after dismissing young batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, which drew criticism for being excessive and unsportsmanlike.

The moment occurred in the second over of Rajasthan’s innings when Vaibhav, a 15-year-old from Bihar, was dismissed for just 4 runs. Following the wicket, Jamieson celebrated aggressively by rolling his eyes and making gestures towards the young batter. He was also seen approaching Vaibhav and saying something, actions that were deemed inappropriate given the age and experience gap between the two players.

Match officials took note of the incident and ruled that Jamieson had violated Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which relates to using language, actions, or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction. Based on the umpires’ report, match referee Rajeev Seth classified the offence as a Level 1 breach. As a result, Jamieson received one demerit point along with an official warning, and he has been cautioned against repeating such behaviour in future matches. The New Zealand pacer accepted the charge and the sanction imposed.

The IPL also issued an official statement confirming the action, stating that Jamieson’s conduct was unacceptable and could have triggered a negative reaction from the opposing player. It was further clarified that any repeat offence could lead to stricter punishment.

Record Chase Headlines High-Scoring Encounter Between DC and RR

Despite the controversy, the match turned into a high-scoring thriller. Riyan Parag led Rajasthan Royals’ batting effort with a brilliant 90 off 50 balls, marking his first fifty-plus score of the season. He was well supported by Dhruv Jurel, who scored 42, while Donovan Ferreira provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 47 off just 14 deliveries, helping RR post a formidable total of 225/6 after opting to bat first.

For Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Starc stood out with the ball, picking up 3 wickets for 40 runs and delivering crucial breakthroughs, including the dismissal of Parag.

In response, Delhi Capitals produced a historic chase, powered by a stunning 110-run opening partnership between KL Rahul, who scored 75 off 40 balls, and Pathum Nissanka, who contributed 62 off 33 balls. Their efforts laid a strong foundation for the chase.

The innings was then calmly finished by Tristan Stubbs (18*) and Ashutosh Sharma (25*), as Delhi chased down the target of 226 with five balls to spare. This marked Delhi Capitals’ highest successful run chase in IPL history and the second-highest successful chase against Rajasthan Royals, just behind the 229-run chase achieved by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the same venue earlier in the season.

With this win, Delhi Capitals secured their fourth victory of the season and moved to sixth place on the points table. Rajasthan Royals, despite the loss, remain in fourth position with six wins from ten matches.
