April 02, 2026: Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka, captain Rishabh Pant, and head coach Justin Langer were seen in a serious discussion after the team’s opening loss to Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2026 on Wednesday, April 1, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

DC chased a target of 142 despite a shaky start, recovering from 26/4 in their innings. Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs played key roles in stabilizing the innings. They first steadied the team after early wickets and then attacked the LSG bowlers to guide Delhi to a comfortable win.

After the match, Goenka was seen speaking with Pant and Langer at the ground while the captain shared his thoughts. Pant responded and discussed strategy, and the video of this discussion quickly went viral on social media, drawing reactions from fans across platforms.

Pant’s Surprising Batting Move

In an unusual decision, Pant opened the batting alongside Mitchell Marsh for LSG. The move, intended to counter Axar Patel’s powerplay bowling, did not go as planned. Pant scored just seven runs off nine balls before being run out in the third over.

Explaining the move after the match, Pant said the plan was to use a left-right combination at the top, which would prevent the opposition from bowling a left-arm spinner early. However, his early dismissal meant the strategy could not be executed fully.

Pant also clarified that his batting position is flexible. He may bat at number three in some matches to accommodate Aiden Markram at the top. Additionally, Nicholas Pooran has a new role in the middle order as a finisher to help close out matches. Pant said, “It’s a 50-50 call depending on the match, but you will definitely see me in the top order at times.”

Delhi Capitals’ Remarkable Comeback

Despite their early collapse, DC staged a brilliant recovery. Sameer Rizvi was the star of the innings, scoring 70 not out off 47 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. Tristan Stubbs supported him with a patient 39 off 32 balls. Their partnership stabilized the innings, gradually shifting momentum in Delhi’s favor.

Earlier, LSG’s bowlers had put DC under severe pressure. Mohammed Shami had removed key players early, reducing DC to 26/4. Supporting bowlers Prince Yadav and Mohsin Khan kept the pressure on during the powerplay.

However, Rizvi and Stubbs’ 119-run unbeaten partnership off 76 balls changed the course of the match. They rotated the strike well, played calculated shots, and ensured the required run rate stayed under control. DC completed the chase comfortably in 17.1 overs, finishing at 145/4 and securing a six-wicket win to kick off their IPL 2026 campaign.

Bowling Highlights

LSG’s bowlers performed well early, with T Natarajan and Lungi Ngidi taking three wickets each. Their efforts helped restrict LSG to 141 runs, but the team could not maintain pressure against the Rizvi-Stubbs partnership. Shami’s early strike and the initial bowling bursts gave hope, but the inability to break the middle-order partnership proved costly.

Brief Score:

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): 141 all out

Delhi Capitals (DC): 145/4 in 17.1 overs (Target: 142)

Result: DC won by 6 wickets with 17 balls remaining.
