May 16, 2026: Lucknow Super Giants registered a dominant seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the 59th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 15.

After losing the toss, Chennai Super Kings were asked to bat first. The visitors had a mixed start to their innings as Sanju Samson scored 20 runs, while Ruturaj Gaikwad managed 13. Urvil Patel was dismissed for just six runs.

However, Kartik Sharma played a brilliant knock of 71 runs from 42 deliveries to stabilise the innings. Dewald Brevis added a quick 25 off 16 balls, while Shivam Dube remained unbeaten on 32 off just 16 deliveries. Prashant Veer also chipped in with an unbeaten 13 as CSK posted a competitive total of 187 runs.

For LSG, Akash Singh was the standout bowler with three wickets. Mohammed Shami and Shahbaz Ahmed picked up one wicket each.

Mitchell Marsh Powers LSG Chase

Chasing 188, Lucknow Super Giants came out with aggressive intent from the very beginning. Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis gave the hosts a flying start with a massive 135-run opening partnership.

Marsh was the star of the evening as he smashed 90 runs off just 38 deliveries. The Australian all-rounder dominated the CSK bowlers and at one stage hammered four sixes in a single over against Anshul Kamboj. Inglis played the perfect supporting role with a composed 36 off 32 balls before being dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary.

Although Marsh missed out on a well-deserved century after being run out at the non-striker’s end, LSG remained firmly in control of the chase.

Nicholas Pooran then finished the match in emphatic fashion with a blistering 32 off just 17 deliveries. The left-hander sealed the victory by smashing four consecutive sixes, helping LSG chase down the target in only 16.4 overs.

For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary and Spencer Johnson were the only wicket-takers.

The defeat dealt another blow to Chennai Super Kings’ playoff hopes. While they remain in contention, the side will now depend on upcoming results and strong performances in their remaining matches to stay alive in the tournament.
