La Liga: Mbappe Scores Again in Real Madrid’s 3-0 Win Over Oviedo

Udaipur, August 25, 2025: Kylian Mbappe scored again for Real Madrid as they defeated Real Oviedo 3-0 in La Liga on Sunday. For Oviedo, who returned to Spain's top flight after almost 25 years, the visit of the 15-time European champions was a big occasion, and the home fans made their voices heard. Mbappe and Vinicius Junior were the stars of the match in northern Spain. The French striker scored twice before the Brazilian added a third goal late on.

Real Madrid Beat Oviedo 3-0

Madrid coach Xabi Alonso made changes from the 1-0 win against Osasuna. Vinicius Junior and Trent Alexander-Arnold were left out, with Rodrygo Goes and captain Dani Carvajal coming in. Youngster Franco Mastantuono made his full debut and showed good dribbling early in the game.

Oviedo tried to attack through Leander Dendoncker in the 23rd minute, but Thibaut Courtois saved easily. Madrid almost scored when Arda Guler’s shot was stopped by Aaron Escandell. Soon after, Guler passed to Kylian Mbappe, who turned and scored in the 37th minute. Oviedo players protested as they felt Aurelien Tchouameni fouled in the build-up.

Madrid stayed on top in the second half. Vinicius and Brahim Diaz came on after the hour mark. Diaz set up Fede Valverde, but Escandell saved again. Oviedo’s Kwasi Sibo hit the post in the 81st minute, but two minutes later Vinicius won the ball and assisted Mbappe for his second goal. In stoppage time, Vinicius scored himself after Diaz found him free.

Villarreal Thrash Girona 5-0

Elsewhere, Villarreal beat Girona 5-0 at home. New signing Tajon Buchanan scored a hat-trick, while Nicolas Pepe and Rafa Marin also found the net. Villarreal were 4-0 up within 30 minutes. Buchanan completed his hat-trick after the hour mark.

Girona have now lost both their opening games, conceding seven goals and scoring none.

Real Sociedad came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Espanyol, thanks to Ander Barrenetxea and Orri Oskarsson. In another match, Osasuna beat 10-man Valencia 1-0 with a goal from Ante Budimir.
