"Have No Funds”: Minerva Owner Ranjit Bajaj’s Emotional Appeal After Team’s Historic 6-0 Win Over Liverpool
Minerva Academy’s U-15 team stunned Liverpool 6-0 at the MIC Cup. Owner Ranjit Bajaj made a heartfelt plea for funding to support India’s rising football stars.
April 08, 2026: Indian football may be facing a difficult period, but the performance of Minerva Academy has brought a bright ray of hope. The Indian club stunned football fans by defeating Liverpool 6-0 in the U-15 stage of the traditional MIC Cup in Catalonia.
The MIC Cup has been an important tournament in Spanish football for over 25 years, with stars like Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., Gerard Pique, Lamine Yamal, and Pedri participating at different times. Famous clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, and Liverpool play regularly. This year, Raj Singh and Azam Khan led Minerva’s dominance on the field.
Minerva had already beaten an American club 4-1 earlier in the tournament, but their performance against Liverpool was extraordinary. Mohammad Azam Khan scored in the 2nd minute, followed shortly by Lishan Amerson Singh. Azam scored again, and Raj Singh completed a hat-trick, giving Minerva a 6-0 victory. The way Minerva’s captain motivated his team before the match has gone viral. After the win, Minerva posted on social media, “You will never walk alone, because the whole country is with you,” echoing Liverpool’s famous anthem.

National Team Struggles Continue
While Minerva Academy’s U-15 boys celebrated a historic win, the Indian national teams face challenges. In the U-20 SAFF Cup final, India lost 4-3 to Bangladesh in a tiebreaker. The team lacked a clear attacking plan, and even before the tiebreaker, their strategy appeared weak. This has raised questions about Mahesh Gawli’s coaching and the direction of Indian football at the national level.
Behind Minerva’s success lies the story of personal sacrifice. On March 16, owner Ranjit Bajaj made a heartfelt appeal for help, revealing that he had even mortgaged his only personal property to fund the boys’ journey. Despite securing visas for the Junior World Cup in Spain, the academy faced a huge financial gap: out of ₹1 crore needed, only ₹27 lakhs had been raised.
Bajaj highlighted a heartbreaking cycle: despite winning the MENA Cup in 2022 and defeating Brazil to win the Gothia Cup in 2023, institutional and corporate support remained nonexistent. The lack of funding led to a “wasted year” in 2024, affecting the world’s most promising young talents. Having provided 100% scholarships for 250 boys since 2020, Bajaj now calls on the public to help bridge the gap.
Why Every Indian Must Stand With Minerva
Bajaj’s appeal was more than a request for money; it was a call for a national movement. He asked every fan to spread the word, saying “every ten rupees counts.” The 6-0 win over Liverpool proved that his vision was right. Supporting Minerva is an investment in the future captains of the Indian National Team. By helping the academy, fans ensure that this team, which defeated one of the world’s most expensive academies, will never face a shortage of funds again.
