March 09, 2026: Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian national cricket team on Sunday after their big win over the New Zealand national cricket team in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Posting on X, the Prime Minister praised the team for their strong performance and determination during the tournament. India won the final in a dominant manner and lifted the trophy once again.
“Champions! Congratulations to the Indian team on winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. This great victory shows their skill, determination and teamwork. The team played with great spirit during the tournament. This win has filled every Indian heart with pride and joy. Well done, Team India,” Modi wrote.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also congratulated the Indian cricket team after their victory in the T20 World Cup 2026 final.
Sharing his message on X, Gandhi called the win a proud moment for the country. He also praised the players for their strong performances in the tournament.
“Champions once again! A great victory for our Men in Blue. Special praise for Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah for their outstanding performances during the tournament,” he wrote.
Gandhi also said that winning the trophy at home made the moment even more special and gave the country another reason to celebrate.

India Dominates the Final Against New Zealand
In the final match, India lost the toss and were asked to bat first. The team made the most of the opportunity and scored a huge 255 runs.
Sanju Samson played a brilliant innings of 89 runs. Abhishek Sharma scored 52, while Ishan Kishan added a quick 54 runs. Their strong batting helped India post the highest total ever in a T20 World Cup final.
Chasing the big target, New Zealand struggled from the start. They could not keep up with the required run rate and kept losing wickets. In the end, the team was bowled out for 159 runs in 19 overs.
India’s bowlers also performed very well. Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with four wickets, while Axar Patel took three wickets. Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma took one wicket each.
