March 25, 2026: Mohamed Salah has announced he will leave Liverpool at the end of the current season, ending a legendary nine-year period at the club.

Salah shared on social media that this season will be his “farewell” at Anfield.

Liverpool said, "Salah wanted to tell the supporters as soon as possible out of respect and gratitude for them, to be open about his future."

Salah joined Liverpool in 2017 and quickly became one of the club’s greatest players.

The 33-year-old has scored 255 goals in 435 appearances, making him third on Liverpool’s all-time goal-scorers list. He has won the Premier League Golden Boot four times.

He helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, two Carabao Cups, and a FA Community Shield.

What did Salah say?

"Liverpool is not just a football club. It is a passion, a history, and a spirit I can’t explain to anyone not part of this club.

"We celebrated victories, won the biggest trophies, and faced the hardest moments together.

"I want to thank everyone who was part of this club, especially my teammates, past and present.

"And to the fans, I don’t have enough words. The support you gave me, in the best and hardest times of my career, is something I will never forget and will always carry with me.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be home for me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."

Salah’s contract

Salah signed a two-year extension at the end of the 2025 season. His contract was set to run until summer 2027. Liverpool said he "reached an agreement that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield."
