January 27, 2026: Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has equalled Dirk Kuyt's club record of seven losses in eight Premier League starts after a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth on Monday (January 26).

Salah, 33, is having one of his worst seasons for Liverpool since joining from AS Roma in 2017. He has scored only four goals and provided four assists in 15 Premier League games. He could not score in the loss to Bournemouth.

Salah missed the last six league games because of his AFCON duties with Egypt. In the match, he set up a goal for Dominik Szoboszlai in the 80th minute to make it 2-2. However, Amine Adil scored a 95th-minute winner, ending Liverpool’s 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions.

Salah Ties Dirk Kuyt's Premier League Record

The defeat meant that Mohamed Salah has now lost seven of his last eight Premier League starts, matching Dirk Kuyt’s record set with Liverpool between February and May 2012 (as per GOAL). During this period, Salah has scored just twice — in a 3-2 loss at Brentford and a 2-0 home win over Aston Villa.

Salah has not scored in his last five Premier League games (starting three times). He is two goals short of his worst scoring streak in the competition. So far, the Egyptian star has scored 190 goals in 316 Premier League games, with 91 assists, and has won two league titles.

Slot Frustrated After Bournemouth Loss

Liverpool head coach Arne Slot rued conceding a stoppage-time winner in a thrilling 3-2 defeat at AFC Bournemouth on Sunday. The loss dropped Liverpool to sixth place in the Premier League standings.

Bournemouth took a two-goal lead in the first half through Evanilson and Alex Jimenez. Virgil van Dijk pulled one back just before half-time. Dominik Szoboszlai equalised in the 80th minute, but Amine Adil scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to seal the victory for the hosts.

“It is a cruel game if you lose in extra time after coming back from 2-0 down at half-time,” Slot told the BBC. “We were in many promising positions, and I felt we could score and get back in the game. But in the last 10 minutes, my players were tired because we only had two days between games.”

Liverpool return to action on Wednesday when they host Qarabag in their final UEFA Champions League group stage game. A win will secure their place in the knockout stages, where they are currently fourth in the 36-team standings.
