ICC fines Mohammad Nabi for disobeying the on-field umpire's instructions during AFG vs SA

Nabi broke the rules by not following the umpire’s instructions. The issue happened in the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings. He had a long talk with the umpires about Lungi Ngidi’s wristband.

February 12, 2026: The ICC has fined Afghanistan player Mohammad Nabi 15 percent of his match fee during the T20 World Cup 2026. The action was taken after the match against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Nabi broke the rules by not following the umpire’s instructions. The issue happened in the 14th over of Afghanistan’s innings. He had a long talk with the umpires about Lungi Ngidi’s wristband.

Nabi accepted his mistake and agreed to the punishment given by the match referee. Because of this, there was no formal hearing. The umpires made the report after the match. He also received one demerit point. It is his first offence in the last two years. If he collects four points in 24 months, he could face a suspension.

Level 1 offences can lead to a warning or a fine up to 50 percent of the match fee. Players can also receive one or two demerit points.

South Africa win close match after Super Overs

South Africa won the match after a very tight finish at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The game was decided in the Super Over. Afghanistan fought well, but South Africa came out on top.

Lungi Ngidi was named Player of the Match. He said after the game that it was one of the most stressful matches he has played. He added that the captain backed him to bowl in the Super Over and his teammates gave him clear advice, which helped him perform better.
