July 05, 2026: Morocco continued their impressive FIFA Club World Cup campaign with a dominant 3-0 victory over Canada to become the first team to qualify for the quarter-finals. Azzedine Ounahi starred with two goals, while Abderrazak Hamdallah Rahimi added another in stoppage time. The Atlas Lions once again showed why they have become one of the strongest teams in world football after their memorable run to the 2022 FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
Canada started the match with great intensity and put Morocco under early pressure. The North American side played attacking football, pressed high, and created several chances in the opening minutes. Jonathan David came close to scoring, while Ali Ahmed and Oluwase also tested Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. However, Bono produced a series of excellent saves to keep Canada from taking the lead. Despite Canada's bright start, Morocco remained calm and slowly settled into the game by controlling possession.
Morocco struggled to create clear chances early on, with Canada's defence standing firm. Ismael Saibari was forced off through injury midway through the first half, and Rahimi replaced him. The first half remained goalless despite several attacking moves from both teams. Referee Michael Oliver showed six yellow cards as the match became increasingly physical. Although Canada created more chances, Morocco enjoyed most of the possession and reached half-time with their defence and goalkeeper keeping the score level.

Azzedine Ounahi's brace seals Morocco's place in the quarter-finals
Morocco came out with much greater purpose after the break and quickly found the breakthrough. In the 50th minute, Azzedine Ounahi collected the ball from a free-kick and curled a brilliant strike into the Canadian net from outside the penalty area. Just minutes later, Achraf Hakimi had a chance to double the lead but failed to convert.
Canada continued to push forward and earned several corners, but Morocco's defence remained well organised. Both teams made substitutions after the hour mark as the game became more open. Canada introduced Kyle Larin in search of an equaliser, but Morocco continued to defend confidently while looking dangerous on the counterattack.
Morocco finally put the result beyond doubt in the 82nd minute. Brahim Diaz carried the ball forward from midfield before setting up Ounahi, who finished confidently to score his second goal of the match. Canada kept attacking in the closing stages, but every effort was denied by Morocco's disciplined defence. Deep into stoppage time, Morocco completed the victory with a swift counterattack. Diaz once again provided the assist, and Rahimi calmly finished to seal a convincing 3-0 win and send the Atlas Lions into the quarter-finals in style.
