May 02, 2026: MS Dhoni could be set to return to the playing XI as Chennai Super Kings prepare for their high-profile clash against Mumbai Indians at Chepauk. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter has been recovering from a calf strain, and his absence over the past few weeks has been closely followed by fans eagerly awaiting his comeback.

Former CSK star and long-time teammate Suresh Raina has added to the excitement with his recent remarks. Speaking during a broadcast on Star Sports, Raina hinted strongly at Dhoni’s return. When asked about his availability, he said, “Aaj khel rahe hai shayad,” and when further questioned, he responded with a clear “Haa,” suggesting that the CSK icon could be back in action for the much-anticipated encounter.

Positive Signs from Team Camp Amid Conflicting Reports

CSK batting coach Michael Hussey also shared an update on Dhoni’s recovery, offering a measured but optimistic outlook. “MS is going really well. Hopefully, he’ll be back as soon as possible. I’m not sure if that will be tomorrow or the match after, but he’s progressing well,” Hussey said. He further added, “Once he feels confident in his calf, I’m sure he’ll give the signal that he’s ready to go. At the moment, we’re guided by him. We’re waiting. I think all of Chennai is waiting,” highlighting the anticipation around Dhoni’s return.

Dhoni, who has been out for nearly three weeks, is reportedly making steady progress with focused work on his movement and running between the wickets. While the team management remains cautious, several reports suggest that the 44-year-old has returned to the nets and is actively taking part in batting and wicketkeeping drills.

Some sources claim that Dhoni looks match-ready and could feature in the clash against the Mumbai Indians. If declared fit, he is expected to slot back into the playing XI, possibly replacing youngster Kartik Sharma. However, with mixed reports circulating, fans will have to wait for official confirmation as Chennai Super Kings gear up for one of the most anticipated fixtures of IPL 2026.
