National Record! Gurindervir Singh of the Indian Navy Creates Indian Record in 100m Race

Udaipur, May 25, 2026 (National Sports News): Petty Officer Gurindervir Singh of the Indian Navy created history by becoming the fastest Indian to run a 100meter race. He shattered the Indian record by clocking 10.09 seconds in the 100 meter sprint at the 29th National Federation Cup Athletics Championship on May 24. The athletics competition is being held in Ranchi. With this win, Gurindervir Singh is automatically qualified to represent India at the Asian Games. He also surpassed the qualifying mark of 10.16 seconds for the Commonwealth Games, where he will now be representing India.

Surpassed Indian Record Twice

Gurindervir broke the national record two times in as many days. He sprinted 100 meters clocking 10.17 seconds in the semi final on Friday, May 22 to surpass the previous national record of 10.18 seconds held by Animesh Kujur. In the second semi final a day later, Animesh clocked 10.15seconds to reclaim the national record. In the final on May 24, Gurindervir once again broke Animesh's record with a 10.09 seconds sprint across 100 meters. Both Animesh and Gurindervir qualify for the Commonwealth Games.

He hails from Patiala and is the son of retired ASI and farmer Kamaljit Singh. He has trained with James Hillier and earlier trained with Sarabjit Singh. The first time he had entered the record books was in 2025, when he clocked 10.20 seconds in the 100 meter race at the Indian Grand Prix.
