Neeraj Chopra, the defending Olympic champion, has qualified for the javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics. He achieved this with an impressive throw of 89.34 meters at the Stade de France. The final will take place on August 8 at 11:50 pm.
Chopra aims to become the first Indian to win two gold medals in an individual Olympic event. If he succeeds, he will also be one of only five men in Olympic history to defend his javelin gold.
This throw is Chopra's best ever at a global championship and his second-best overall, just behind his 89.94m throw in Stockholm at the Diamond League. Remarkably, he qualified on his very first attempt, despite dealing with an adductor niggle this season.
Despite participating in only three events this year, the 26-year-old world champion has shown excellent form. He remains a strong contender, especially as his international rivals have not been performing at their best.
Since winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics, Chopra has thrown below the 85-meter mark only twice in 15 events, demonstrating his consistent reliability.
