NZ vs WI 3rd Test: Duffy’s Five-For Seals 323-Run Win at Mount Maunganui
West Indies were all out for 138 runs in the second innings and lost the match by 323 runs
Udaipur, Dec 22, 2025: West Indies scored just 39 runs for 3 wickets in 32 overs in the second session of the final day of the Mount Maunganui Test. They batted very slowly because they had no other way to try to save the match.
However, the damage was already done in the first session. West Indies lost five wickets for just 11 runs and ruined a good start. In the second session, they continued with very slow batting. In the final session, they lost their last two wickets.
West Indies were all out for 138 runs in the second innings and lost the match by 323 runs.
With this win, New Zealand won the three-match Test series 2–0. The Kiwis have now won their last five Test series against West Indies. The team last lost a Test series to the Caribbean side in 2012.
Huge Target and Early Collapse
West Indies needed to break their own world record run chase to win the match. New Zealand set a big target of 462 runs after openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway scored double centuries. West Indies did not have enough time to chase the target. Their best option was to bat long and try to save the match.
Openers John Campbell and Brendon King gave a decent start. They scored 43 runs in 16 overs by the end of the previous day. On the final day, the pair added more runs and took the total to 87. New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy took the first wicket. Brendon King, who scored 67 off 96 balls, was caught by Glenn Phillips in the gully. In the next over, Campbell was out for 16 runs after Phillips took another fine catch while running back from mid-on off Ajaz Patel’s bowling. Patel then dismissed Kavem Hodge in the same spell.
Soon after, Duffy removed Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves, and West Indies collapsed to 98/5. The team struggled badly and added very few runs before tea. Slow batting in the second session made things worse.
Duffy Shines as New Zealand Seal Series
In the second session, Duffy dismissed Roston Chase with a brilliant delivery. In the third session, he bowled Jayden Seales to end the match. The 31-year-old pacer picked up five wickets for the third time in the series. He finished the match with nine wickets and gave away just 42 runs in 22.3 overs in the second innings.
Duffy took 23 wickets in three Tests and was named Player of the Series. Only two New Zealand players have taken more wickets in a Test series—Richard Hadlee with 33 and Bruce Taylor with 27.
Devon Conway, who scored a century after his double century, was named Player of the Match. New Zealand won the Test series 2–0. Earlier, they also won the five-match T20I series 3–1 and the three-match ODI series 3–0.
