Nitish Kumar Reddy Ruled Out of T20Is vs England & Ireland, Suryansh Shedge Replaces Him
India have suffered a setback as Nitish Kumar Reddy is ruled out of the Ireland and England T20Is due to a quadriceps injury. The BCCI has confirmed his rehabilitation timeline while naming Suryansh Shedge as his replacement. The Mumbai all-rounder earns his maiden India call-up after strong domestic and India A performances.
June 23, 2026: India have suffered another setback ahead of their upcoming white-ball tour of the UK, with all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out of the T20I series against Ireland and England due to a quadriceps injury.
According to a PTI report, Reddy picked up the injury during the ODI series against Afghanistan. A detailed medical scan has confirmed swelling along with fibre disruption in his left quadriceps. Following the assessment, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) medical team has advised him to undergo rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence (COE). The recovery timeline is expected to be at least four weeks, though it may extend further depending on how the injury responds to treatment.
Injury setback and detailed medical update
Reddy’s injury concern was not sudden, as he had already experienced discomfort earlier in the series. He missed the second ODI in Lucknow after complaining of quadriceps tightness, with India captain Shubman Gill confirming that the all-rounder was dealing with “some issues with his quad.” Despite returning to the playing XI for the third ODI in Chennai, the issue resurfaced once again after the match, forcing the medical staff to conduct further evaluations.
The BCCI later issued an official update stating that Reddy reported left quadriceps discomfort after the third ODI on June 20. Based on the scans and medical review, the board confirmed that he would require a mandatory rehabilitation phase, ruling him out of both the Ireland T20Is and the England T20I series.
This injury comes at a crucial time for India, as Reddy was seen as a valuable all-round option in the squad structure, especially with senior players also managing fitness concerns. His absence reduces India’s flexibility in team combinations across the upcoming overseas assignments. However, the board has indicated that he remains in contention for the three-match ODI series against England starting July 14, which offers some relief regarding his longer-term availability.

Replacement and Suryansh Shedge’s opportunity
In Reddy’s absence, the BCCI has announced Suryansh Shedge as his replacement for both the Ireland T20Is and the five-match T20I series against England.
Shedge earns his maiden India call-up following a strong run of performances in domestic cricket and India A fixtures. He was one of the standout performers for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024–25, where he scored 136 runs in nine matches at an impressive strike rate of 251.92. His ability to accelerate quickly in the middle and lower order, along with his composure in pressure situations, made him a key contributor to Mumbai’s title-winning campaign.
He also carried that form into India A assignments, where he impressed in the Tri-Nation Series involving Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A. A notable knock of 72 against Sri Lanka A further strengthened his reputation as a reliable batting all-rounder, capable of contributing in both departments.
With India already dealing with multiple injury concerns in the all-rounder department, Shedge’s inclusion offers a fresh option for the team management as they prepare for a demanding T20I schedule in English conditions.
