After a disappointing Rio Olympics 2016 for the men’s wrestling contingent, Indian wrestling fraternity, especially wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt  had something to cheer about. Yogeshwar Dutt’s bronze medal at London Olympics 2012 has been upgraded to a Silver medal after Russian who got silver tested positive for a banned substance.

Readers may recall that Yogeshwar Dutt had won the bronze model in the 60-kg freestyle event in the 2012 Olympics. Silver was secured then by Russia’s Besik Kudukhov’s, who finished second. The Russian however tested positive for banned substance as per reports released today.

Though there has been no official confirmation but Yogeshwar Dutt confirmed the medal upgrade in a tweet.

The Russian agency flowrestling.org, mentioned that the four-time world champion and twin Olympic medallist Kudukhov has been stripped off the silver medal. Incidentally, he died in a car crash in 2013 in southern Russia.

Kudukov’s samples were re-tested under new rules and found positive. Samples collected are stored for 10 years for possible testing.
