March 5, 2026: A new controversy has emerged around the Pakistan national cricket team during the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. An unnamed player from the Pakistan squad was reportedly fined by team management after allegedly misbehaving with a female hotel staff member at the team’s hotel in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The identity of the player has not been made public.

According to reports, the incident happened shortly before Pakistan’s final Super Eight match against the Sri Lanka national cricket team. The player’s behaviour reportedly made the female housekeeping staff feel uncomfortable, prompting her to call for help. Other hotel employees intervened and later informed Pakistan team manager Navaid Cheema about the situation.

Internal Handling by Team Management

Hotel officials reportedly wanted strong action, but the Pakistan team management chose to handle the matter internally. The player was fined for his conduct, and Cheema issued an apology to the hotel staff on behalf of the team. Reports suggest the player may face further disciplinary review by the Pakistan Cricket Board’s disciplinary committee.

Adds to Pakistan’s World Cup Disappointment

This controversy comes at a difficult time for Pakistan, which failed to reach the semifinals despite winning their final Super Eight match against Sri Lanka by five runs. The incident has renewed discussions about player conduct during tours, adding to past disciplinary controversies involving members of the Pakistan cricket team.

Earlier, young batter Haider Ali was arrested by Manchester Police last year on charges of raping a girl on Pakistan Shaheens' tour of England. Haider appeared before a court but was released due to lack of evidence, the report claimed.

Pakistan team masseur Malang Ali was also reported and fined for misbehaviour with a female staff member on a tour of Malaysia a few years ago.
