Injury sidelines Rishabh Pant as Bumrah shines on Day 2 of Lord’s Test
July 11, 2025 - The second day of the third Test between India and England at Lord's began with Joe Root completing his century. But India received bad news early in the day. Rishabh Pant, who was injured during the 34th over on Day 1, did not come on the field on Day 2 as well. In his absence, Dhruv Jurel continued wicketkeeping duties.
BCCI gave a big update on Pant before the start of the second day of the Lord's Test match against England. The wicketkeeper-batsman got hurt on his left index finger while collecting a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. He was quickly checked by the medical team on the field.
BCCI Gives Update
BCCI posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Pant is still recovering from an injury to his left index finger. The BCCI medical team is closely watching his condition. Jurel will continue wicketkeeping on the second day too.
This is the first time Jurel is keeping wickets while Pant is in the playing squad. Since Pant returned to the Test team, Jurel has only played as a specialist batsman, including in the Perth Test against Australia.
Pant’s Unique Test Record
Since making his Test debut in 2018, Pant has always played as a wicketkeeper when in the XI. He has never played as a pure batsman. He is also the vice-captain of India’s Test team.
Bumrah Shines with the Ball
Jasprit Bumrah gave India a great start on Day 2. He took three key wickets — Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Chris Woakes. Bumrah bowled Stokes for 44 runs off 110 balls in the 86th over.
Two overs later, Root was out after inside-edging the ball onto his stumps. On the very next delivery, Bumrah dismissed Woakes, leaving England at 271/7. He narrowly missed a hat-trick.
Bumrah is now one wicket away from his first five-wicket haul at Lord's. This is his second Test at this historic ground. There are reports that he may be rested for the fourth Test.
