No Asia Cup? PCB Stares at Major Revenue Loss
PCB eyes Rs 8.8 billion in revenue from ICC and Asia Cup - future now uncertain
July 21, 2025 - The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in the T20 format. However, there is still uncertainty over the tournament, which is to be hosted by Pakistan. India is not ready to accept any of Pakistan’s demands related to the event.
In such a situation, the future of this Asian Cricket Council (ACC) tournament looks doubtful. If the Asia Cup does not take place, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may face huge financial losses.
PCB Set to Earn Billions from ICC and Asia Cup
The PCB expects to earn around Rs 8.8 billion this year from its share of revenue from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the ACC.
According to a PTI report, the PCB has kept aside US$25.9 million (about Rs 7.7 billion) as its share from the ICC for the current financial year.
From the Asia Cup, the PCB expects to earn Rs 1.16 billion, and an additional Rs 77 million from other international cricket events. The report also says that "income from the ICC and Asia Cup is very important for the financial stability of Pakistan cricket."
Problems Over Meeting and Venue
Uncertainty is growing over the schedule and venue of the Asia Cup 2025. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi did not attend the ICC meeting in Singapore last week. Instead, he joined the Annual General Meeting (AGM) virtually.
PCB CEO Sumair Ahmed went to the ICC meeting, but he "did not get a positive response" from the BCCI and the cricket boards of Sri Lanka and Afghanistan about attending the ACC meeting in Dhaka on July 24, where final plans for the Asia Cup were to be discussed.
According to the report, many boards like India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Oman and some associate members are not willing to go to Dhaka. The discussions during the ICC meeting suggest that things are not looking good for the Asia Cup, which is scheduled for September.
Naqvi is currently the president of the ACC. India was earlier set to host the Asia Cup, but owing to the Pahalgam terror attack and the ongoing issues with Pakistan, the event may now be shifted to the UAE.
