February 9, 2026: Hopes of seeing India and Pakistan play each other at the T20 World Cup 2026 in Colombo got a big boost on Sunday. This happened after ICC deputy chairman Imran Khwaja travelled to Lahore for high-level talks with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were also part of the meeting. The talks focused on clearing political and commercial issues that have put doubt over the high-profile match scheduled for February 15 in Colombo.
As per reports from Dawn, the ICC and PCB are likely to make a final decision only after getting approval from the Pakistan government.
PCB puts forward three conditions
During the Lahore meeting, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi placed three key demands before the ICC as part of Pakistan’s support for the T20 World Cup.
First, the PCB asked for a bigger share of ICC revenue. It feels Pakistan deserves better financial support because of its large fan base and strong market.
Second, Naqvi urged the ICC to help restart bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan. The two teams have not played a bilateral series for many years due to political issues.
Focus on on-field behaviour
Third, the PCB raised concerns about player behaviour on the field. This followed the no-handshake incident at the Asia Cup. The board stressed that players should respect cricket traditions during India–Pakistan matches.
Bangladesh also makes its move
The talks were not only about Pakistan. Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam also shared an important demand with the ICC.
Bangladesh is seeking the chance to host a future ICC tournament. The BCB believes the country now has good stadiums, strong fan support, and enough commercial value to host a major event. The board feels hosting an ICC event would help grow Bangladesh’s cricket economy and improve its global image.
