May 20, 2025 - Lucknow Super Giants stepped onto the field yesterday, May 19, with one goal: to win the match and keep their playoff hopes alive. However, things did not go as planned at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are already out of the playoff race, chased down the target of 206 runs set by Lucknow with ease. They won the match with 10 balls and six wickets remaining.

Lucknow had scored 205 runs for seven wickets, thanks to a strong opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Marsh scored 65 runs off 39 balls, while Markram made 61 runs off 38 balls. Together, they added 115 runs in just 10.3 overs.

Pooran Fights Alone for Lucknow

Nicholas Pooran tried his best to help Lucknow. The West Indian batsman scored 45 runs off 26 balls. Lucknow managed to add 35 runs in the last 2 overs.

Harshal Patel Creates IPL Record

Hyderabad pacer Harshal Patel bowled Aiden Markram to take his 150th wicket in IPL history. He reached the milestone on his 2,381st ball, setting the record for the fastest to 150 wickets in terms of balls bowled. The previous record was held by Lasith Malinga, who took 150 wickets in 2,444 balls.

Abhishek-Ishan Take Charge After Early Wicket

Chasing 206, Hyderabad lost opener Atharva Taide (13) with just 17 runs on the board in the second over. But Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan added 82 runs in just 35 balls for the second wicket.

Abhishek Equals Pooran's Record

Abhishek Sharma smashed 59 runs off just 20 balls, hitting 6 sixes. He reached his half-century in just 18 balls. This was the fourth time he scored 50 in under 20 balls in the IPL, equalling Nicholas Pooran’s record.

Middle Order Seals the Victory

After Abhishek’s dismissal, Ishan Kishan (35 off 28), Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 28) and Kamindu Mendis (32 off 21) continued the charge and helped Hyderabad win the match.

Points Table Update

Despite this win, Hyderabad remain in eighth place with nine points from 12 matches. Lucknow are just ahead in seventh place with 10 points from the same number of matches.
