PM Modi Meets World Cup-Winning Daughters, Congratulates Them on Historic Victory

Nov 06, 2025: The World Cup-winning Indian women’s cricket team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Wednesday. PM Modi hosted India’s champion daughters at his official residence on Lok Kalyan Marg. He posed for a photo with the Indian women’s team and the trophy.

The Prime Minister congratulated the players on their historic win. He praised their strong comeback after losing three matches in a row and appreciated the team’s determination to stay strong despite criticism on social media.

According to media reports, PM Modi also spoke to each player individually. During the meeting, captain Harmanpreet Kaur remembered her meeting with PM Modi in 2017, when she met him without the trophy. Smriti Mandhana, vice-captain of the team, said that PM Modi is an inspiration for everyone. She also said that girls are doing well in all fields today because of the Prime Minister’s support and encouragement.

During the conversation, Deepti Sharma said she had been looking forward to meeting the Prime Minister. She remembered their meeting in 2017, when PM Modi told her to keep working hard and follow her dreams. PM Modi also noticed that Deepti Sharma has 'Jai Shri Ram' on her Instagram and a tattoo of Lord Hanuman on her arm. He said this gives her strength.

During the meeting, Harmanpreet asked PM Modi how he always stays focused on the present. The Prime Minister said it has become a habit in his life.

Praise for Harmanpreet and Harleen

PM Modi also recalled Harleen’s famous catch against England in 2021, which he had shared on social media. He remembered how Harmanpreet kept the ball after the final match and said she was lucky to get the ball.

Praising Amanjot Kaur’s Famous Catch

PM Modi spoke about fast bowler and all-rounder Amanjot Kaur’s famous catch, which she took after dropping a few earlier. He said it was a fumble he enjoyed watching. He added, “While catching, you should watch the ball, but after the catch, look at the trophy.”

During the conversation, fast bowler Kranti Gaur mentioned that her brother is a big fan of PM Modi. He immediately invited her brother to meet him.

Call to Spread Fit India Message

PM Modi asked the world-beating Indian women’s cricket team to spread the message of Fit India, especially to girls. He also talked about the growing problem of obesity and said staying fit is very important.

The Indian women’s team won the ODI World Cup for the first time on Sunday, November 2, by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. All the players performed brilliantly and made India proud.

PM Modi congratulated the team immediately after their win. He posted on Instagram:

"Great victory for the Indian team in the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025. Their performance in the final showed amazing skill and confidence. The team showed excellent teamwork and determination throughout the tournament. Congratulations to the daughters of India. This historic victory will inspire future women champions to take up sports."
