36^th Police Range Weightlifting Tournament started today at Udaipur’s Luv-Kush indoor stadium.

A total of 25 athletes from different regions of the state are participating in this 3 day tournament which started today afternoon.

The competition is divided into eight different weight categories of 56 kg, 62, 69, 77, 85, 94, 105 and over 105 kg respectively.

According to the sources, the event was initially proposed to be held at Rajsamand but, due to lack of equipments and necessary facilities,the enue was changed to Udaipur. However the closing ceremony and prize distribution will be held in Rajsamand on July 27, 2011.

Rajsamand was given preference to host the event because maximum athletes participating in it belongs to the district and only few have been registered from Udaipur, Chittorgarh and other districts of the region.

Bhupendra Vyas (in photo above) will represent Udaipur as one of the participant in this sporting event; he will compete in the 56 Kg category.

This event is exclusive for athletes from Police Department, Rajasthan.
