Udaipur, Oct 20, 2025: Liverpool suffered their first four-game losing streak in 11 years after losing 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday. Manchester United won at Liverpool for the first time in nine years. Harry Maguire scored a header in the 84th minute to give United their second straight Premier League win. This was the first time Ruben Amorim has won two games in a row as United manager.

Earlier, Cody Gakpo equalised for Liverpool in the 78th minute. Brian Mbeumo had given United the lead just 61 seconds into the match. With this defeat, Liverpool are now four points behind leaders Arsenal. Coach Arne Slott is still trying to find the right rhythm despite spending £450 million on new players. On the other hand, United have moved to within two points of Liverpool and are now in ninth place.

United End Anfield Streak, Liverpool Struggle

Liverpool had lost just once in their last 14 Premier League meetings with Manchester United. United’s last win at Anfield was in January 2016, Klopp’s first season.

After three straight defeats in all competitions, Liverpool had a nightmare start. Less than a minute into the match, Brian Mbeumo beat Virgil van Dijk to score from Amad Diallo’s pass. Alexis McAllister fell and hit his head in the build-up, but the referee did not stop the game. McAllister collided with captain Van Dijk.

Liverpool’s biggest chance in the first half hit the post. Cody Gakpo also missed a chance, while United captain Bruno Fernandes hit the post. United goalkeeper Senne Lammens was not tested much, but he made a great save to deny Alexander Isak.

Second Half Drama

In the second half, Gakpo hit the post twice. In the 60th minute, Slot brought on Florian Wirtz and Ugo Ekiti. Salah, Gakpo, and Isak formed a strong attack, but they wasted chance after chance.

Finally, in the 78th minute, Gakpo equalized from a low cross by Federico Chiesa. But six minutes later, Harry Maguire headed in a cross from Bruno Fernandes to give United the lead. Gakpo missed another header in the last minute.

Liverpool lost at Anfield for the first time in over a year. Their dream of a record 21st league title suffered a big blow.
