Preparations of National Level Tournament in Full Swing

The all India Inter-University Powerlifting, Body Building and Weight Lifting Championship hosted by Sukhadia University Udaipur is scheduled to start from 21st February; preparation of the same are in full swing at Luv Kush Stadium with teams practising under the expert guidance of District Coach Amrit Kalyani, appointed as official coach of Team MLSU.

The all India Inter-University Powerlifting, Body Building and Weight Lifting Championship hosted by Sukhadia University Udaipur is scheduled to start from 21st February; preparation of the same are in full swing at Luv Kush Stadium with teams practising under the expert guidance of District Coach Amrit Kalyani, appointed as official coach of Team MLSU.

Around 110 universities from various parts of India and Rajasthan will be participating for the championship over two sessions to be organised in both Gymnasium and Auditorium simultaneously. In the first session from 21-23rd Feb events of powerlifting, weight lifting and body building for Men’s category will be held, followed by Powerlifting and Weight Lifting in Women’s category in the second session from 26-28th Feb in.

Being one of the most prestigious tournaments, team MLSU is preparing hard to grab top positions; a Team of 14 athletes all belonging from Udaipur including the coach are practicing from past 3 months. Also considering the importance of fitness, every player is facilitated with extra allowance of Rs.100 per day so that one can buy required nutrition including Fruits, Soybean and Milk etc.

According to Amrit Kalyani, athletes of various weight categories of the Powerlifting tournament include, Divyansh Soni (59 Kg), Sameer Khan (62 Kg), Mohammad Jawed (93 Kg), Govind Prajapath (66 Kg), Mukesh Kumar (100 Kg), Touseef Khan (59 Kg), Shekher Sharma (62 Kg) and Vikas Chandel (75 Kg), whereas in Weight lifting Arjun Paliwal (85 Kg) and Prem Dangi (93 Kg) along with Vikas Sharma and Touseef Khan.

Kalyani added that participation of athletes would be finalized in a meeting on 20th Feb in MLSU. Meenu Murlidharan is the only women athlete who is likely to show her participation in Women’s category. Kalyani also informed that University has announced special cash prize for in-house players on achievement of a title.

According to D.S. Chouhan, Secretary Sports Board, “National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) will be present throughout the competition to ensure dignity of the game”.
