PSL 2026 Faces Security Threats: Foreign Players Warned, No Crowds Allowed at Matches
TTP warns foreign players that safety cannot be guaranteed in PSL 2026, urging them to prioritise security amid Pakistan’s unrest.
March 23, 2026: Uncertainty surrounds the upcoming 2026 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after new threats were issued against foreign players. Reports say several cricket boards have been warned not to send their players for PSL 2026. Top overseas stars, including David Warner and Steve Smith, are expected to feature in the tournament.
A senior commander from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) faction, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, reportedly told cricket boards, “We advise you not to send players to Pakistan. If something happens to them, it will not be our responsibility. We have already warned them.”
He also confirmed the warning is real and added, “Yes, we will do our best to ensure the matches do not happen and the players do not play.”
David Warner is set to captain Karachi Kings, while Smith is expected to make his PSL debut with Multan Sultans and has already left for Pakistan. Other international stars, including Marnus Labuschagne, Moeen Ali, Devon Conway, and Adam Zampa, are also scheduled to participate. The tournament is set to begin on March 26 with 44 matches planned in Lahore and Karachi. The opening ceremony has been cancelled.

No Crowds at PSL Matches
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that fans will not be allowed in stadiums due to safety concerns amid the ongoing West Asia conflict and Pakistan’s internal security situation.
“We cannot ask people to limit their movement and then have 30,000 spectators in stadiums every day,” Naqvi said. “As long as this crisis continues, there will be no crowds at matches. Cancelling the opening ceremony was a difficult but necessary decision.”
Meanwhile, several overseas players have ended their Pakistan Super League (PSL) contracts to join the Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts on March 28. Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani and Sri Lanka’s Dasun Shanaka have taken the IPL opportunity, even though they had signed with PSL teams. Earlier, Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk also withdrew from the PSL, citing personal reasons.
The PSL 2026 opener will see reigning champions Lahore Qalandars face first-timers Hyderabad on March 26 at the Gaddafi Stadium.
The 11th season of the PSL features eight franchises, including two new teams. The tournament will run from March 26 to May 3, 2026, with matches across six venues: Lahore (15 matches), Rawalpindi (11), Faisalabad (7), Karachi (6), Multan (4), and Peshawar (1).
