PSL Broadcast stopped in India

Udaipur, April 25, 2025: Whenever there is tension between India and Pakistan, it also affects sports. This time is no different. The recent gunmen attack in Pahalgam has created fresh tension between the two countries. As a result, the broadcast of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been stopped in India. Last Tuesday, some gunmen attacked innocent people in Pahalgam, located in Indian-controlled Kashmir. In this incident, 26 people lost their lives, including 25 Indians, and 10 others were injured.

The Indian government believes that Pakistan is behind the Pahalgam attack. The rebel group The Resistance Front (TRF), which the Indian government sees as a branch of the Pakistani militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, has already claimed responsibility for the killings.

Streaming platforms Fancode and Sony Sports Network had won the rights to broadcast this year’s PSL in India. However, they did not show the match between Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar Zalmi, held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore last night.

Fancode has also removed old PSL videos. Even Cricbuzz, the cricket website owned by India's Times Group, has taken down all information related to the 2025 PSL, including the schedule, scorecards, and match reports.

In a statement, Fancode said it would no longer broadcast the rest of the PSL from April 24. The OTT platform described the Pahalgam incident as a terrorist attack and expressed its anguish over the incident. However, Pakistan's streaming platform Tapmad continues to broadcast the PSL as usual.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not yet commented on the suspension of the PSL broadcast in India. Meanwhile, there have been mixed reactions on social media. Some cricket fans agree with the decision of the Indian broadcasters, while others believe that sports should not be mixed with the political conflicts between the two countries.

Bilateral series between India and Pakistan have been suspended for over a decade due to the ongoing conflict. After the Pahalgam attack, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that India would not play any bilateral series against Pakistan in the near future. The BCCI will also request not to place India and Pakistan in the same group for ICC and ACC tournaments.

BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla stated, "We stand with the victims. The government's decision is our position. We do not play bilateral series against Pakistan and will not play in the near future. This is a policy decision of the government."

BCCI Secretary Debjit Saikia said, "Apart from condemning this cowardly attack, we express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims."

In response to the attack, the Indian government has canceled the visas of Pakistani nationals. In retaliation, the Pakistani government has canceled the visas of Indian nationals. However, 12 Indian broadcasters and a producer, who were in Pakistan for PSL broadcasting, are now stranded in the country.

A PCB official mentioned that the visa cancellations will not affect the Indian television crew, as they have special privileges in their documents.
