For the third time, Team Udaipur stood has champions in 28th Rajasthan Sub-Junior State Boxing Championship held at Hanuman Garh from August 17 to August 19, 2012.

For the third time, Team Udaipur stood has champions in 28th Rajasthan Sub-Junior State Boxing Championship held at Hanuman Garh from August 17 to August 19, 2012.

Highlight of the tournament was City’s Suraj Soni, who was awarded the Best Boxer Title. Last year this award was won by Chetan Singh, also from Udaipur.

Udaipur’s athletes clinched a total of eight Gold, three Silver and two Bronze medals. Udaipur’s team was followed by team Jodhpur.

Among the winners of Gold medals were Chetan Singh Powar, Suraj Soni, Manoj Charan, Harsh Purohit, Amit Shyoran, Mandeep Singh, Vijay Dharu and Faizaan Hussain. Ravi Rathore, Raj Soni and Praveen Powar won Silver medals, while, Hamendra Chaubeesa and Sanjay Nagda won a Bronze each.

According to the Secretary of District Boxing Committee, Fatah Singh Rathore, Udaipur team was trained by Narpat Singh Chundawat, coach of Indian Youth Team, currently, deputed in Sirohi by State Sports Council.

Speaking to our correspondent, Faizan Hussain of Udaipur who achieved a gold medal in his category mentioned, “he had his winning fight with Shushank from Jalore in the finals, were he beat the contender in three rounds to gain a gold medal for his team”.
