Rajasthan’s Prem Singh Qualifies for World Badminton Championship

Chouhan wins silver at National Masters Badminton; the championship was held in Goa

Udaipur, March 26, 2025 - Rajasthan’s Prem Singh Chouhan won a silver medal in the National Masters Badminton Championship 2025 held in Goa. He secured a place in the Indian team for the World Badminton Championship. Prem, a resident of Jodhpur, started strong by defeating VL Duhavama of Mizoram 21-18, 21-15. In the second round, he won against Naveen Prasad C of Tamil Nadu 21-13, 17-21, 21-7. He then beat Mohsin Sumra of Gujarat 21-15, 21-10 to reach the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals, Prem edged past Amit Khadgi of Maharashtra 21-15, 22-20. He continued his winning streak by defeating Satinder Malik of Chandigarh 21-5, 21-19 in the semifinals. In the final match, Prem played a thrilling game against Jaswinder Singh of CAG. He fought hard but lost 17-21, 21-19, 18-21 in a match that lasted for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Past Achievements

In 2022, Prem won a men's doubles bronze medal at the Syed Modi India International Badminton Championship in Lucknow.

Two more shuttlers from Rajasthan also won medals in Goa including Chand Chawat, who won a bronze medal in the 45-plus men’s singles. and Vikas Sharma won a bronze medal in the 50-plus men’s singles.

India Team Selection for World Championship

All three Rajasthan players Prem Singh Chouhan, Chand Chawat, and Vikas Sharma will represent India at the Masters World Badminton Championship in Thailand from September 7 to 14.
