RCB Collapse in Ahmedabad as Gujarat Titans Cruise to 4-Wicket Win in IPL 2026

Gujarat Titans defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 4 wickets in IPL 2026 in Ahmedabad after RCB’s middle-order collapse. Patidar dismissal sparks debate.

May 01, 2026:  Royal Challengers Bengaluru arrived in Ahmedabad on the back of a commanding nine-wicket win over Delhi Capitals, where they had completely dominated the hosts by bundling them out for just 75 runs and chasing the target with ease. That performance had boosted their confidence significantly, and RCB entered the clash against Gujarat Titans as favourites, given their strong batting form and GT’s earlier inconsistency in the season.

However, the contest at the Narendra Modi Stadium unfolded very differently. The Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans produced a disciplined and well-rounded performance to defeat RCB by four wickets. Despite their reputation for a powerful batting lineup this season, RCB failed to fire in Ahmedabad and were restricted to 155 runs in 19.2 overs. Virat Kohli gave them a flying start with 28 off 13 balls, but his dismissal triggered a collapse that the team could not recover from.

Patidar wicket and RCB middle-order collapse spark debate in Ahmedabad clash

Devdutt Padikkal was the lone bright spot for RCB, top-scoring with 40 runs, but he received little support from the other end. Once Kohli was dismissed, RCB’s innings lost momentum quickly. Rajat Patidar, who was expected to anchor the middle order, fell for 19 off 15 balls at a crucial stage. Jitesh Sharma managed just 1 run, Tim David added 9, and Krunal Pandya contributed 4. Even Venkatesh Iyer, used as an Impact Player, failed to make an impact, scoring 12 off 15 deliveries. The repeated failures of the middle order once again exposed RCB’s vulnerability while batting first.

Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack executed their plans with precision throughout the innings. Arshad Khan was outstanding with figures of 3/22, breaking key partnerships and removing important batters, including skipper Rajat Patidar. Rashid Khan and Jason Holder supported well with two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada also chipped in with crucial breakthroughs. Their combined effort ensured RCB never recovered and were bowled out for a below-par total.

In reply, Gujarat Titans began their chase in explosive fashion. Captain Shubman Gill led from the front with a blistering 43 off just 18 balls, setting the tone early. Jos Buttler matched the aggression with 39 off 19 deliveries, keeping GT well ahead of the required rate from the outset. Although the middle order had brief setbacks, Rahul Tewatia’s unbeaten 27 ensured there were no late hiccups as Gujarat reached 158/6 in just 15.5 overs to complete the chase comfortably.

For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar stood out with an excellent spell of 3/28, while Romario Shepherd took two wickets and Suyash Sharma added one more. However, the lack of runs on the board meant their bowling effort could not change the outcome.

A key moment of the match came with Rajat Patidar’s dismissal, which sparked visible reactions from Virat Kohli. Patidar attempted to pull a delivery from Arshad Khan but edged it towards deep backward square leg, where Jason Holder completed a diving catch very close to the ground. The third umpire reviewed the decision, and despite some uncertainty in the replays, Patidar was given out. Kohli, already dismissed earlier, appeared visibly frustrated from the dugout, while head coach Andy Flower was also seen questioning the decision.

In the end, RCB’s middle-order collapse and inability to build partnerships proved costly once again. While their top order continues to show strength in chases, their struggles while batting first were exposed in this crucial encounter, allowing Gujarat Titans to secure a well-earned victory.
