June 4, 2025 - History was made in the IPL final yesterday, June 3, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Royal Challengers Bangalore won the IPL title for the first time in 17 years. RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final.

While chasing the target, Punjab Kings had a good start. There was a 43-run partnership for the first wicket. After that, Hazlewood gave the first breakthrough by dismissing Priyansh Arya for 24 runs. Prabhsimran got out after scoring 79. Captain Shreyas Iyer was dismissed after scoring just 1 run.

Pandya’s Brilliant Spell

Krunal Pandya bowled an excellent spell, taking 2 wickets for just 17 runs in 4 overs. He brought RCB back into the match by dismissing the well-set Josh Inglis (39). Later, he sealed Punjab’s fate by taking two more wickets in the 17th over. Punjab Kings could only score 184 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs.

Shashank's Fight

After Inglis got out, Shashank Singh kept fighting for Punjab Kings. He played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 61 runs from 30 balls, hitting 3 fours and 6 sixes. He kept Punjab's hopes alive until the very end.

RCB’s Poor Start

In the final match, Punjab’s captain won the toss and chose to bowl first. Led by Kyle Jamieson (3/48) and Arshdeep Singh (3/40), Punjab bowlers did well to restrict RCB to 190 runs. Arshdeep bowled a brilliant last over, giving only 3 runs and taking 3 wickets.

Virat Kohli, playing in his fourth IPL final in 18 years, scored the highest - 43 runs - but his innings was slow. He hit only one boundary in the first 9 overs and played 18 dot balls. Both teams were aiming for their first IPL title. Punjab reached the final after 11 years, while RCB returned to the final after nine years.

Jamieson, Chahal Give Edge

RCB missed the chance to score a big total. The pitch was good for batting, but RCB’s batters lost wickets one after another. Phil Salt (16) and Kohli gave a steady start, but in the second over, Jamieson dismissed Salt.

Kohli then tried to build the innings with Mayank Agarwal (24), and RCB crossed 50 in the powerplay. But captain Shreyas brought in his trusted bowler, Chahal, who delivered immediately by dismissing Mayank on a slog sweep, caught by Arshdeep in the deep.

Chahal dismissed Mayank for the seventh time in IPL history. After that, RCB's run rate slowed. Kohli tried to stabilise the innings but could only score 43 runs from 35 balls with a strike rate of 122.85. He hit just three fours, two of which came after the ninth over. Between the sixth and 11th over, RCB added only 42 runs.

Patidar, Livingstone Fall Short

Rajat Patidar (26) and Liam Livingstone (25) got good starts but couldn't convert them into big scores. Jamieson bowled with great control and used his variations well. His figures were spoiled a bit in the 17th over when Jitesh Sharma (24) and Livingstone scored 23 runs together. But Jamieson bounced back quickly and trapped Livingstone LBW with a full toss.

Arshdeep's Magic

After giving away 37 runs in his first three overs, Arshdeep made a strong comeback in the last over. He took the wickets of Krunal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Romario Shepherd. Shepherd tried to push the score past 200 with a six and a four, but Arshdeep dismissed him too and ended RCB’s innings at 190.
