April 25, 2026: Royal Challengers Bengaluru produced a thrilling five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in a high-scoring IPL 2026 encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. Chasing a stiff target of 206, RCB held their nerve under pressure and reached the finish line in 18.5 overs, driven by strong half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal in a well-paced chase.

Gujarat Titans had earlier posted an imposing 205/3 after being asked to bat first. The innings was built around a magnificent century from Sai Sudharsan, who scored a fluent 100 off 58 balls—his third IPL hundred. He was in complete control throughout his stay, handling both pace and spin with confidence. Sudharsan also shared a commanding 128-run opening stand with skipper Shubman Gill, who contributed 32 off 24 balls. The left-hander’s innings stood out not only for its fluency but also for a major milestone, as he became the fastest player to reach 2000 IPL runs, underlining his consistency at the top level.

Kohli–Padikkal Stand Turns the Game

RCB’s chase began on a cautious note as Jacob Bethell fell early, putting pressure on the middle order. However, Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal completely changed the momentum with a dominant 115-run partnership for the second wicket. Padikkal took the attacking route from the beginning, smashing a quickfire fifty in just 20 balls, while Kohli played a more controlled yet authoritative innings, reaching his half-century in 30 deliveries before going on to score 81 off 44 balls. The duo comfortably handled Gujarat’s quality attack, which included Kagiso Rabada, Prasidh Krishna, and Rashid Khan.

Just when RCB seemed in full control, Gujarat Titans briefly fought back by breaking the partnership in quick succession. Both Kohli and Padikkal fell, followed by the dismissals of Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma, reducing RCB to 173/5 and creating a tense finish. However, Krunal Pandya (23 off 12) and Tim David (10) showed composure under pressure, ensuring there were no further setbacks and guiding RCB home with seven balls to spare.

Earlier, despite Sudharsan’s exceptional century setting up a strong total, Gujarat Titans could not finish as strongly as they would have liked. RCB’s disciplined bowling effort in the final phase of the innings proved decisive, as they conceded just 31 runs in the last four overs, preventing GT from crossing the 210 mark.

In the end, Sudharsan’s brilliant knock went in vain, but RCB’s collective batting effort, led by Kohli and Padikkal, ensured a convincing finish. The win also marked a strong conclusion to their home fixtures at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, as they continued their impressive run at the venue this season.
