Udaypur, February 6. 2026: Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues are close friends with similar mindsets. However, in the WPL final on Thursday, they found themselves as fierce opponents. It was clear that only one of them would celebrate victory. In the end, Smriti emerged as the winner. Despite Jemimah’s strong fight, her team fell short. Given the form and confidence with which Smriti was batting, it was difficult to imagine a different outcome. Delhi Capitals made a late effort, but they suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in a WPL final. In contrast, Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched the title for the second time by sealing the win in the final over.

RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. Shafali Verma (20) and Lizelle Lee (37) provided Delhi with a steady opening. Although 49 for one wicket in the powerplay was not exceptional, it was a reasonable start. Delhi Capitals posted 203 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs. Captain Jemimah Rodrigues top-scored with 57, including eight fours. The total could have been higher, but she was caught at deep square leg while attempting to capitalise on a full toss. Laura Wolvaardt contributed 44, while Chinelle Henry played a late cameo, remaining unbeaten on 35 off 15 balls. Among the RCB bowlers, Lauren Bell stood out by conceding just 19 runs in her four overs, though she went wicketless.

Mandhana Sets the Tone in a High-Pressure Chase

RCB began their chase with the required run rate crossing ten an over. Grace Harris was dismissed early for nine, and fittingly, the scoreboard also read nine when her middle stump was uprooted. At that stage, a counterattack was essential, but preserving wickets was equally important. Smriti Mandhana answered the challenge immediately, driving her first boundary straight down the ground with elegance. From that moment, the momentum began to swing firmly in RCB’s favour. Georgia Voll provided excellent support, matching her captain’s intent and composure.

Mandhana–Voll Take Control of the Final

Finals are expected to be tense contests, especially with a 200-plus target and a trophy on the line. Despite early breakthroughs, Delhi Capitals struggled to contain the growing partnership. Smriti and Voll gradually took the game away, leaving the opposition with few answers. Voll, who was dismissed late in the innings, played a superb knock of 79 off 54 balls, striking 14 boundaries. It was a standout performance under pressure.

Mandhana, however, was in complete control. She appeared unfazed by the bowling or field placements, judging length early and sending the ball to the boundary with ease. Her dominance suggested that the result was inevitable.

RCB Hold Their Nerve Till the End

A brief twist followed as wickets fell in quick succession, giving Delhi a glimmer of hope. Mandhana eventually departed after a commanding 87 off 41 balls, which included 12 boundaries and three sixes. With her dismissal, Delhi sensed an opportunity. However, Radha Yadav responded with back-to-back boundaries to calm the nerves and put the match beyond doubt. RCB crossed the line with two balls to spare, sealing a memorable victory and another championship triumph.

Brief Score:
Delhi Capitals – 203/4 (Jemimah 57, Laura 44)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru – 204/4 (Smriti 87, Voll 79)
