21 January, 2026: In front of a packed crowd of 73,599 fans, Real Madrid delivered a dominant performance against Monaco at the Estadio Bernabéu in a UEFA Champions League clash. The big win strengthened Madrid’s hopes of reaching the last 16. The 15-time European champions were full of confidence after their 2-0 La Liga win over Levante and secured their second win in a row, putting their recent Super Cup final defeat to Barcelona on January 12 behind them.

The match marked Álvaro Arbeloa’s first Champions League game as Real Madrid coach, and his team gave him a night to remember. Kylian Mbappé scored the opening goal in the fifth minute. Former Monaco player Franco Mastantuono then continued to trouble his old club with dangerous runs down the right side and helped create chances before Mbappé found the net.

Mastantuono joined Monaco at the age of 14 in 2013 and has since enjoyed success against them. He has now scored 13 goals in 15 games versus Monaco while playing for PSG and Real Madrid. In this match, he scored in the 51st minute to put Real Madrid 3-0 ahead.

In the second half, Vinícius Jr took charge of the game.
