Real Madrid Takes the Lead Before Mbappé’s Red Card

Real Madrid took the lead four minutes before Mbappé received his red card, thanks to a goal from Eduardo Camavinga. Later, in the 70th minute, Alavés' Sanchez also received a red card for a foul on substitute Vinícius Júnior. Real Madrid won the match 1-0.

Davide Ancelotti Comments on Mbappé's Behavior

Since coach Carlo Ancelotti was suspended for the match, his son and assistant coach, Davide Ancelotti, took charge from the dugout. After the match, he commented, "Mbappé is not a violent player. He understood what he did wrong and apologized."

Ancelotti Jr. Supports the Referee's Decision

Ancelotti Jr. had no objections to the referee’s decision, saying, “Yes, it was a red card and he (Mbappé) got his punishment. Perhaps the reaction came from the pressure of the fouls Mbappé was receiving throughout the match. It’s not the right reaction, but what else can you do?”

Mbappé Apologizes to Antonio Blanco

A club source later told The Athletic that Mbappé personally went to Antonio Blanco after the match to apologize for the incident. The source also mentioned that Real Madrid believes they do not always get fair decisions from referees. For instance, in the match against Espanyol last February, Mbappé was harshly tackled by Espanyol's Carlos Romero but only received a yellow card.

Mbappé's Potential Suspension: How Many Matches?

Real Madrid is now waiting to find out how many matches Mbappé will be banned for after his red card. According to La Liga's disciplinary code, Mbappé could be banned for one to three matches. Generally, if no serious injury results from the tackle, the player who committed the foul is usually banned for no more than two matches.

Real Madrid Faces Tough Fixtures Ahead

Despite playing 31 matches in La Liga, Real Madrid is currently 4 points behind Barcelona in second place. The team will play their next two league matches against Bilbao and Getafe. However, before that, Real Madrid will face Arsenal in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals next Wednesday. Ancelotti’s team is under pressure after losing 3-0 to Arsenal in the first leg at the Emirates.
