India, Nov 11, 2025: Delhi was shaken by a powerful series of explosions on Tuesday, as three cars blew up in front of the historic Red Fort. The blasts claimed eight lives and left several others injured. Following the incident, authorities have issued a high alert in Kolkata, with Lalbazar instructing all city police stations to strengthen security measures.

In response, security arrangements are being significantly tightened for the upcoming India–South Africa Test match at Eden Gardens. The first Test of the series is scheduled to begin on November 14. While the Indian team has already arrived in Kolkata, the South African side is expected to reach the city this evening. India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, who was scheduled to visit the Kalighat Temple on Tuesday, has postponed his visit for now due to heightened security concerns.

Anticipation for the high-profile Test is running high, with tickets for the opening days already sold out. Consequently, a three-tier security plan has been implemented at Eden Gardens. Security personnel will be deployed at every level — from the outer perimeters and entry gates to the galleries and stands.

Spectators will undergo double metal detector checks before entering the venue. In addition, plainclothes officers will be stationed throughout the stands to monitor the crowd. While Eden Gardens generally maintains strict security during international matches, the recent events have prompted an even more rigorous approach. No suspicious items will be permitted inside the stadium, and crowd movements will be closely monitored to ensure complete safety.

Security Tightened Across Kolkata After Delhi Blast

Security has been increased in areas near the Kolkata Metro. Sources say that Lalbazar has ordered more barricade enabled checking and patrolling in the city. Special focus has also been placed on monitoring all roads entering and leaving Kolkata. Along with the city, police superintendents and all district police stations across the state have been put on alert.

Explosions Near Red Fort Cause Panic

On Monday evening, just before 7 pm, three cars parked in the parking lot near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro suddenly exploded. The fire quickly spread after the blasts. Jain and Umashankar temples are located in front of the metro, and many people were there in the evening. The area was crowded during rush hour, which caused panic after the explosions.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) have reached the spot and are investigating the case. The exact reason behind the explosions is still not known.
