February 14, 2026: The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have named Riyan Parag as their captain for the IPL 2026 season. The 24-year-old all-rounder has good leadership experience in both domestic and franchise cricket. He previously captained the Royals in eight matches during the 2025 season when regular captain Sanju Samson was injured.
RR officially announced Parag’s appointment on February 13. In a video message, Parag said he was told about the decision by head coach Kumar Sangakkara and team owner Manoj Badale before a T20 World Cup 2026 warm-up match against the United States.
"A lot of emotions, but then I thought straight away about what I need to do next. What do we need to change or do better to finish in a better place?" Parag said on Instagram.

Royals Aim for IPL Glory in 2026
As IPL 2026 approaches, the Royals want to end their long title drought and win their second trophy. Their only IPL win came in 2008 under Shane Warne.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce the official schedule soon. The dates are being finalized so they do not clash with state elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, home to CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders. The season will likely start in late March and finish by late May or early June.
