According to reports, India Test skipper Rohit Sharma has filed a complaint against Sunil Gavaskar for his “too negative” comments, says it is impacting the team’s performance
January 29, 2025 - India's Test captain Rohit Sharma has reportedly filed a complaint with the BCCI against former cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar for his harsh comments about the Indian team following their poor performance on the Australia tour. India had lost the five-match Test series 1-3 on the Australia tour.
According to reports, Rohit has complained to the BCCI top brass about the 75-year-old veteran’s negative criticism in one of their meetings, saying that the external pressure was impacting his performance. He said that the excessive criticism of the Indian players is affecting their form, said a source.
The report claimed that Rohit has relayed his concerns to the cricket board that Gavaskar was "too negative" regarding his recent poor form against Australia.
During the Australia tour, Rohit scored only 31 runs at a very poor average of 6.00 in three Test matches. He had missed the first Test due to the birth of his second child. He opted out from the final Test in Sydney which had led Gavaskar to question his absence, also suggesting that it might be time for someone else to take over the captaincy for the team’s betterment.
“The skipper, Rohit Sharma, was out of his depth and having taken the brave decision to step aside, because of his form, he has also raised big questions about his future in Test cricket,” Gavaskar had written in his column for The Sydney Morning Herald during the tour.
