Udaipur, May 4, 2025: After IPL 2025, the Indian team will tour England. A five-match Test series will be played between India and England in June. Recently, a report has revealed which Indian players may be selected for this Test series. According to a report by The Times of India, the BCCI has shortlisted 35 players for the England tour, and the list includes the name of captain Rohit Sharma.
Is Rohit Sharma Going to England Tour? Here's What We Know
There has been speculation about India captain Rohit Sharma not joining the England tour for the upcoming Test series. However, no official statement has been released yet. The final squad is expected to be announced by the second week of May.
Who Might Replace Iyer and Axar?
According to a Times of India report, the BCCI is considering Rajat Patidar and Karun Nair for the No. 5 or 6 spots in the batting order. Both players may first be tested in the India 'A' series, which will begin within a week after the IPL ends on May 25.
Interestingly, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel have not been included in the 35-player shortlist for the England tour.
Why Rohit is Still Likely to Go
A BCCI source said: "Rohit is most likely to go on the tour as the board feels a strong captain is needed during this tough series, just like the Australia tour."
Sarfaraz Khan May Miss Out
The team management reportedly has little trust in Sarfaraz Khan’s ability in Test cricket. Instead, Patidar and Nair—both experienced red-ball players in good form—are being considered.
Kuldeep and Sai Sudharsan Could Be Included
With R Ashwin having retired from Tests, Kuldeep Yadav may get a chance to be the main spinner in the squad. Sai Sudharsan is also being looked at as a possible third opener.
