Udaipur, Dec 03 2025: Former India captain Rohit Sharma stands on the brink of a remarkable career milestone as he approaches the elite 20,000-run mark in international cricket. Now just 27 runs short of the landmark, Rohit is poised to become the fourth Indian batter in history to enter this prestigious club.
The exclusive list currently features three of India’s greatest icons — Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid. Tendulkar leads with an extraordinary 34,357 runs, followed by Kohli with 27,808, and Dravid with 24,064. At the time of publishing this news (December 03, 2025), Rohit, with 19,973 runs from 504 matches at an impressive average of 42.40, is on the cusp of joining this illustrious company.
Rohit’s career statistics underline his excellence across all formats. His record includes 50 international centuries and 110 fifties, reflecting both longevity and consistency at the highest level. His runs are spread across 4,301 in Tests, 4,231 in T20Is, and a commanding 11,441 in ODIs — highlighting his pivotal role in India’s white-ball success over the past decade.
Although Rohit stepped away from T20Is following India’s 2024 World Cup triumph and announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year, he continues to lead the ODI side with authority, experience, and unmatched composure.
Rohit Sharma’s Strong Form in 2024
The year 2024 has been one of Rohit Sharma’s best years in ODI cricket. He has scored 561 runs in 12 matches at an average of 51 and a strike rate of over 99. He has hit two centuries and three half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 121. His great form was visible on the Australia tour, where he scored a fifty and a century in the three-match ODI series. He continued this momentum in the South Africa series, starting with a smooth 57 off 51 balls in Ranchi.
During this innings, Rohit also created global ODI history by hitting his 352nd six, breaking Shahid Afridi’s record of 351. This record is even more impressive because of how quickly he reached it. Afridi made his record in 369 innings, while Rohit crossed it in just 269, showing his world-class power-hitting ability.
Rohit will now have the chance to reach the 20,000-run mark with one more ODI against South Africa left in the Ind-SA ODI series 2025. With strong form and a major milestone ahead, the match is expected to draw a lot of attention as Rohit looks to join India’s greatest run scorers. The last of the three ODIs in this series will be played on December 6.
