Wimbledon 2025: Sabalenka Storms into Semis

Belarusian star eyes fourth consecutive Grand Slam final

 |

July 10, 2025 - Aryna Sabalenka was close to defeat, but she made a strong comeback to win a tough match. After a long battle of 2 hours and 54 minutes, the world number one women's tennis player finally took the victory. The Belarusian star defeated unseeded Laura Siegemund of Germany with a score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to reach the Wimbledon semifinals.

The 27-year-old Sabalenka has now reached the last four at Wimbledon for the third time. She had previously played in the semifinals in 2021 and 2023, but was eliminated on both occasions. Will this year be different for her?

If Sabalenka wins the semifinal, to be played Thursday, July 10, she will reach her fourth straight Grand Slam final. After winning the US Open in 2024, she also played in the finals of the Australian Open and French Open in 2025, but finished as the runner-up in both tournaments.

Sabalenka to Face Anisimova in Semifinal

Sabalenka will face American No. 13 seed Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon 2025 semifinals. Anisimova reached the last four by defeating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia.

Sabalenka Nearly Knocked Out by Siegemund

Sabalenka is now the only top six seed left in the Women's Singles. But today, she came very close to joining the list of early exits.

37-year-old Laura Siegemund has not gone this far in Singles very often. She is better known for her Doubles success, but this time she played very well in Singles. She had even defeated Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the third round.

Siegemund shocked Sabalenka early in the match. She broke Sabalenka’s serve twice in the first set, using a smart mix of slice backhands and drop shots. Although Sabalenka managed to break once in the fourth game, she lost her serve again and the set ended 6-4 in Siegemund’s favour. This was Sabalenka’s first set loss in Wimbledon this year.

Sabalenka Makes Strong Comeback

Sabalenka changed her game in the second set. She went back to her aggressive style, broke Siegemund’s serve three times, and won the set 6-2 with fast and powerful groundstrokes.

The final set also started badly for Sabalenka. She fell behind 3-4, and it looked like Siegemund might pull off a huge upset. But Sabalenka showed her class just in time, winning three games in a row to seal the match and reach the semifinal.

After winning the final point, Sabalenka let out a huge roar, showing a mix of relief and joy at surviving the tough match.

Alcaraz Reaches Men’s Semifinals

In the Men’s Singles, Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time defending champion, moved closer to a third straight Wimbledon title. The Spanish star defeated Britain’s Cameron Norrie in straight sets. Alcaraz, who is the second seed, won the match 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 in just 99 minutes. He will now face American Taylor Fritz in the semifinals.
