Samir to take part in Asian Power Lifting Championship
Samir Khan of Udaipur will be representing team India in the Senior Age group 66kg weight category, while Bhupendra Vyas, who recently won 3 gold medals in Powerlifting Common Wealth Games at London has been left out.The selections to the Indian Team for the Asian Powerlifting Championship scheduled from 1st to 7th May have been announced today.

“Samir Khan, winner of Gold Medal at the Federation Cup held in Kangda, Himachal Pradesh has been given an opportunity to perform at the Asian Powerlifting Championship,” said Vinod Sahu, Joint Secretary of the Indian Powerlifting Federation. He also mentioned that Bhupendra Vyas has been left out as he did not participate in the Federation Cup.
Samir Khan’s preparations have been going on at a good pace; he is devoting 4 hours daily and also maintains a nutritious diet for overall fitness. As an athlete, Samir has won 3 gold medals in the West Zone India Powerlifting in the past and has also been awarded the title of Mr Rajasthan for 10 consecutive years.
As Bhupendra Vyas was representing Udaipur Police Department in a Powerlifting Tournament in Jaipur, he missed out on the Federation Cup, which was a necessary criteria for selection in the National team.
The other athletes selected to the Indian team in the Junior age group are Shiv Narayan Vyas and Alka Swany in the 105 and 73 kg category respectively and Naju Arora in the 84 kgh weight category.
