January 27, 2026: Scotland, who entered the T20 World Cup at the last minute, have announced their 15-member squad. They replaced Bangladesh in the tournament after the ICC made the decision official on Saturday (January 24). Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament after the ICC refused their request to move their matches out of India.

Richie Berrington will lead the Scotland team. The squad includes 11 players who were part of the T20 World Cup 2024. Tom Bruce, who has played 17 T20 internationals for New Zealand, will play his first World Cup for Scotland. He switched his allegiance to Scotland last year and made his ODI debut for them in August.

Other players who will play in the World Cup for the first time are Afghanistan-born Zainullah Ihsan, Finlay McCreath, and Oliver Davidson.

Scotland head coach Dawkins said, “The last 48 hours have been very busy for everyone at Cricket Scotland. Steve, Trudy Lindblade, and the entire team have worked continuously to organise everything for the players and support staff since we found out we would be part of the World Cup.”

Cricket Scotland Confident Visa Issues Will Be Resolved

Cricket Scotland is confident that visa problems will not affect the team, even after their late entry into the T20 World Cup. The ICC has assured them that all visa-related matters will be handled properly.

According to the schedule, Scotland will play on the opening day of the tournament. They will face the West Indies on February 7 in Kolkata. Before that, they will play two warm-up matches — against Afghanistan on February 2 and Namibia on February 4 — both in Bengaluru.

Possible Delay for Safyaan Sharif

There could be a delay in getting a visa for Safyaan Sharif. He was born in Huddersfield to a Pakistani father and a British-Pakistani mother. In recent years, political and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan have often caused delays for people of Pakistani origin applying for Indian visas.

Cricket Scotland chief executive Trudy Lindblade said the ICC has given strong support. She said there is a team working very hard to help Scotland and other teams as well. She added that Scotland is currently their main focus due to the short notice.
