Shikhar Dhawan Summoned by ED in Betting App Case, Faces Intense Questioning Like Suresh Raina

Udaipur, Sept 04, 2025:  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan for questioning on Sept 4. His name has come up in the 1xBet betting app case after Suresh Raina. According to PTI, Raina will also reach the ED office soon.

For some time, ED has been checking online betting platforms more strictly. ED is also looking at ads made by film stars and cricketers for banned betting apps like 1xBet, Fairplay, Parimatch, and Lotus365. Before Raina, ED had already asked questions to former cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh.

Shikhar Dhawan to appear before ED today

ED has asked former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan to appear and join the investigation. ED wants to know about his role in promotional work. That is why Dhawan has been called for questioning today. The agency thinks Dhawan was linked with this app through ads and promotions. ED will ask him about this. The agency is checking many such cases of illegal betting apps. These apps are accused of cheating people and investors of crores of rupees and taking big amounts of money.

Suresh Raina questioned by ED

Earlier, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina was also called by ED. Raina became the brand ambassador of the betting app in December last year. The ED questioned Raina for more than eight hours. His statement was recorded under the PMLA in connection with a betting app named 1xBet. Sources said Raina was linked to the app through some endorsements.

The agency has also called people from Google and Meta for questioning. It carried out searches in many states in another case related to the betting app Parimatch. ED is checking many cases of illegal betting apps. These apps are accused of cheating people and investors of crores of rupees and also not paying taxes.

Experts say India has about 22 crore users of online betting apps. Out of these, around 11 crore use them regularly. The market of online betting apps in India is worth more than USD 100 billion and is growing at about 30 percent every year.
