Udaipur, April 28, 2025: Several former Pakistani cricketers, including Shoaib Akhtar, are believed to have had their YouTube accounts blocked in India. This was reported by several Indian media outlets, including NDTV, Economic Times, and Zee News.
Shoaib has been discussing cricket on his YouTube channel, "Shoaib Akhtar 100 MPH", for a long time. He has around 3.8 million followers, many of whom are from India. However, since Monday morning, April 28, Shoaib Akhtar's YouTube channel has not been visible in India. Many Indians have reported this on social media and are posting screenshots of Shoaib's YouTube channel being inaccessible.
Several Pakistani YouTube channels were recently banned in India on the recommendation of the Indian Home Ministry, following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The attack killed 26 people, most of whom were tourists.
A popular Indian media outlet reported, citing an Indian government spokesperson, that the Pakistani YouTube channels were banned for allegedly spreading inflammatory and communally sensitive content, fake news, and misleading propaganda against India.
The YouTube channels that have been confirmed to have been banned in India include Dawn News, Irshad Bhatti, Sama TV, ARY News, Bol News, Raftar, The Pakistan Reference, Geo News, Sama Sports, GNN, Uzair Cricket, Umar Cheema Exclusive, Asma Shirazi, Munib Farooq, Suno News, and Raji Nama.
Although Shoaib Akhtar's account is not on the Indian government's banned list, his followers in India could not find the channel by searching on the website or app. However, the account's older videos are still available on YouTube in various formats.
Not only Shoaib, but also the YouTube channels of former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Rashid Latif and batsman Basit Ali are also unavailable to their followers in India. There has been no official explanation from the Indian government regarding whether these channels were blocked by mistake or not.
