What did the BCCI say?

The BCCI said that Iyer is getting treatment and is stable and recovering. The BCCI medical team, along with doctors in Sydney and India, is keeping a close watch on his injury. The Indian team doctor will stay with Shreyas in Sydney to check his progress every day.

Shreyas Iyer Injured While Taking a Catch

ODI team vice-captain Shreyas Iyer got injured while taking a catch during the third ODI against Australia. He took a brilliant catch at backward point but hurt his left rib. After returning to the dressing room on Saturday, he was taken to the hospital. Scans showed a rib injury.

Seven Days Under Observation

Iyer was admitted to a hospital in Sydney because of bleeding in his rib and was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He is now out of the ICU but will stay under observation for two to seven days, depending on his recovery. This is to stop any infection from spreading due to the bleeding.

Because of this injury, his recovery may take longer, as internal bleeding can slow the healing process. The 31-year-old is expected to stay in the Sydney hospital for at least a week before returning to India.

It is also worth noting that Iyer is not part of India’s T20 squad. After the three-match ODI series against Australia, India will play a five-match T20 series starting on October 29.
